Overview
For too long, some educators have fallen prey to a pernicious bias that rigorous mathematics is intended only for “certain” students. This bias tends to disadvantage students based on skin color, gender and family upbringing. “This math is too hard for these kids…” has been a refrain that has harmed the students we serve. The goal of this session is to help instructional leaders, coaches and educators unmask these biases where they hide and fester, and discuss strategies to implement Rigorous & Relevant Instruction in schools.
This module was built from a professional learning session that ANet coaches experienced about Rigorous & Relevant Instruction in mathematics - what it is, why it’s important and how to support its implementation in the classroom. This asynchronous learning experience distills the most important activities and video moments from that session and we invite you to learn alongside us.
